If approved by voters, the California redistricting could nullify five new U.S. House seats Republicans are expected to gain from a new redistricting map in Texas.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a package of legislation, kicking off the Golden State's redistricting drive, as the Democrat retaliates against Texas.

The Orange County lawmaker, who also condoned Texas’s gerrymandering effort, urged lawmakers to support legislation introduced by Rep. Kevin Kiley, of Northern California, to ban mid-decade redistricting in every state, saying that would be more constructive than California Democrats’ current efforts.
