Florida’s Republican and Democratic state lawmakers have been invited to tour Alligator Alcatraz on Saturday, after multiple Democratic lawmakers were denied entry last week. Florida Democrats say they had already been planning an unannounced oversight visit at the exact same time.

M AGA supporters have flocked to take selfies at the Trump administration’s new Florida immigration detention center dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz,” sparking outrage from activists who have slammed the facility as “inhumane.” Trump last week toured the detention center, which is surrounded by alligator-filled swamps in the Everglades.

Jim Beever spent much of his career reviewing large developments in the Collier County area, which is where the detention center is being built.

WESH 2 has confirmed people held over the past week in the Orange County jail have been transported to the new Alligator Alcatraz detention facility in the Florida Everglades.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has previously said there would be no impacts to vegetation and there would be no paving or permanent construction at the Everglades site.
