NBC Boston on MSNBlazing heat is back in Boston. What to expect from the season's third heat waveWe’re on the way to brighter and hotter in the coming hours, as a new heat waves spurs. This will be the region’s third of the season. It’s not likely to be too sustained, and in fact may fall just short of the technical definition – three days with temperatures at or above 90 degrees.
Heat alerts extend nearly statewide with high dew points making it feel closer to the mid-90s or slightly higher across the region.
Boston's heatwave leads to First Alert for dangerous heat, with temperatures and humidity expected to push feels-like temperatures near 100 degrees.
A heat advisory is in place across the Northeast, from Maryland to Maine, where residents are bracing for temperatures 5 to 15 degrees above average.
Dew points are in the uncomfortable zone, over 70 degrees, making Boston and much of New England feel more like Southern Florida. With that much water vapor in the air, the surface will feel much hotter, with heat index values in the upper 90s. Heat alerts have been declared across much of the region Monday.
Boston expects heat with possible storms, as temperatures may touch 100°F on the heat index, and a 30% chance of afternoon rain.
"Bring the first heatwave of the summer! Gusty west winds give us a break from the humidity today into Saturday — then it builds back."
