Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the Supreme Court’s senior liberal, slammed the Trump administration’s handling of immigration matters in a fiery dissent Monday and accused her colleagues of “rewarding lawlessness” by backing its latest emergency appeal.

Plaintiffs in the case want the right to challenge deportations to countries other than their own because of the risk of persecution, torture or death.

A divided Supreme Court on Monday allowed the Trump administration to restart swift removals of migrants to countries other than their homelands, lifting for now a court order requiring they get a chance to challenge the deportations.
