Two years ago, Gaza’s largest city was sprawling with life. Classrooms brimmed with schoolchildren, markets were full of shoppers and beachside cafes offered respite for those escaping the stresses of a besieged enclave.

Scores of Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza in recent days, including people sheltering in tents or looking for food. Palestinian media say many people were killed by Israeli strikes on a camp for displaced people in southern Gaza's Khan Younis.
